When you pierce your lip at home how should you take care of it, how should you have it done at home?

Hey I have pierced my own nose and lip and they came out great no infection or anything. Heres how I did it...

1) Get a large gauge sewing needle and sterilize it in alcohol.

2) Sterilize and mark the spot in which you would like to pierce but check the inside too and make sure there's no veins or sores.

3) Align the needle with the marked spot and push the needle through. It will go through easily because it is not cartilage.

4) Pull the needle out and put the ring or stud in. I recommend a stud because rings are to tempting to play with and that could result in infection because your twisting the germs from outside in the healing wound.

5) After care!

The after care is pretty simple clean the outside with antibacterial soap a few times a day and wash your mouth out with diluted mouth wash or Biotene. And obviously you must know the basics. No kissing, alcohol, pools, hot tubs, make up and no playing with it!

Good Luck!When you pierce your lip at home how should you take care of it, how should you have it done at home?
If you've done it @ home, you should have used at least the right materials (ex. starilized hallow needle, jewelry, etc). If you did it without the right materials, expect an infection. But treat it as a regular labret, clean it now and then and never irritate it.When you pierce your lip at home how should you take care of it, how should you have it done at home?
Do it and you might paralyze part of your face... if you hit the right nerves. Spend the $20 and go have it done by a pro.
don't. get it professionally done. its not worth the risk. trust me!
Never do it yourself you are not trained! pay the 20 bucks and let a pro do it please!
piercing it yourself includes the risk of infection and scarring.

is it worth it to have a swollen, pus filled lip?
Its too easy to do it wrong, just go out and have a professional do it, its extreemly cheep at most places.
Ok. Since people won't be nice. I will.

Get a hypodermic needle specifically made for piercing skin. DO NOT use a sewing needle or a safty pin, you're just asking for trouble with one of those. Sterilize it in rubbing alcohol, then burn it. Once it's cooled off, use a felt tip pen or something to mark where you want the hole (but first sterilize the spot with alcohol). Then, have the needle sitting in neosporin, just the tip of it. Let the jewelry soak in iodine or alcohol. Get a piece of cork or something soft put it on one side of your lip, then jab the needle into it. Put the end of the jewelry into the hole at the end of the needle and push it through so that the needle and piercing go through at the same time and there's never a chance for it to close up. Tighten the ring or barbell or whatever. Use mouthwash in your mouth and bactine spray outside. Good luck!
keep it as clean as you can because i can tell you from personal experience that lip piercings get infected really easily. clean it 5 or more times a day with an antibacterial like ';bactine';

as for the piercing, try poking the needle through your skin and into something on the other side, like a potato. you want something firm for it to go into so you dont slip and make the hole not ';clean';

good luck!!!
Use hydrogen peroxide. If you cut 3% peroxide in half. half water half peroxide, it wont burn your skin.

I pierced my lip 15 years ago with a dirty 10 gage needle in the streets.

All I have to show is bad dental records.
Sure, go ahead an kill yourself :(

If you get an infection on your lip ... especially the upper lip, the infection will spread to your brain and you can be dead within 24 hours.

That's what my mom told me.

So if ya wanna live, have it done professionally.

Better safe than sorry.
ooo first you want to find the dirtiest room in your house, make sure you don't wash your hands rinse a safety pin in the toilet and go to town....don't clean it and just leave the safety pin in there.

Does that sound like fun to you? I didn't think so... do not... i repeat do not pierce yourself at home, or on your own, unless you want it to pretty much look like you did it by the above described method. See a professional, they know where to pierce you, HOW to pierce you, have proper needles, a steril enviornment, and surgical grade steel hardware to put in it. It doesn't cost as much as you may thing, and it is for sure much cheaper than all the drugs and hospitalization can cost when your ';cheap'; home made piercing goes wonky....
Seeing that some people refuse to go to piercers, and if the person posts a question about doing it themselves chances are they'll do it regardless of what can happen.

Make sure everything is sterile (autoclaved hollow piercing needle, autoclaved jewelry, gloves, clean-up the area in your house where you're going to do the piercing, autoclaved clamps so they aren't super crooked). An autoclave is the only thing that will sterilize things, not boiling water or any of that crap. You could get hepatitis if you use a needle that isn't properly sterilized.

Clean the area doing sea salt soaks. Don't rotate it, don't use peroxide, rubbing alcohol, bactine..etc. Those will do more harm then good and prolong the healing time.

I know from experience that self piercings are bad.. I did my snakebites myself when I was 15. Now I have two super crooked scars to show for it. I'd advise you to go to a piercer so you don't end up regretting what you did. But, live and learn I suppose. I know I did.
You should not pierce your lip at home, or anywhere else for that matter.
