How do i take care of a cold sore on my lip?

After getting four cold sores around Xmas, I started taking a vitamin called Lysine at the suggestion of a friend whose doctor recommended it when he had a shingles outbreak.


I haven't had a cold sore since. So if you are prone to the cold sores, I suggest taking the Lysine.


Otherwise, I would stay away from Carmex or any other petroleum product as they smother the cold sore, keeping it moist so they don't allow it to dry out.


Campho-p always has worked well for me. Better than Relev or Abreva.

A cold sore on your lip is called Herpes Simplex and it's the same type of virus that causes genital herpes and is just as contagious. There a lots of antiviral meds on the market now but they all need a prescription from your doc or dentist. Nothing over the counter will work against virus'. There are also ways to prevent cold sores. If you know the feeling you get before you break out, like itching and tingling you can take the anti-viral asap and lots of times it won't come out or if it does it will be very mild. Cold sore or ';fever'; blister is caused by Herpes Simplex virus (not the genital type). You need to be careful not to spread this to other people





Home therapy: rub with ice when you first feel ';tingling';, Zilactin (over the counter) topical medication, take Lysine.





Go to your dentist and ask about Zovirax or Denavir ointment prescription.
You really have to try to treat them before they break out - when they tingle. I use a comination of Abreva %26amp; Zilactin. Abreva stops the growth of the sore, and Zilactin helps with the pain. This combo was recommended by my pharmacist and has been very successful - I have one right now, actually due to a cold. They rarely get any larger than a small pimple.
If it's already ';bloomed'; then all you can do is help it heal, and Abreva (over the counter) is good for that.





Talk to your doctor and get a prescrip of anti-viral drug to have on hand next time you feel one ';blooming'; and you can cut it off at the pass by starting the meds at the first sign of a break out.

Try holding some ice wrapped in cloth on the sore. It also might help to eat a popsicle.

i get cold sores all the time, i find abreva works best it is about 16 dollars , if you have a costco card it is 20 for 2 tubes
I use baking soda, it burns, but they go away pretty quickly. Either that or get some medication, they go away in a few weeks.
Cold sore medication helps - but a natural remedy is black licorice.. It'll help it heal and prevent it as well! You can buy it in liquid form at a natural foods store, hope this helped!
make a paste of extra virgin olive oil and baking soda and put it on just before ya go to bed! and dont lick it in your sleep!
Try(abreava)It really took care of my cold sore. It starts to disappear in about 24 hours after the 1st use of this product. Sorry if I mis spelled it! :)

use alum its a seasoning that you just have to rub on.
I'd try Carmex or Blistex. If it doesn't go away soon, see a doctor.

sounds like you have stage of herpes...go to the doctor
rub some soy suace on it works every time
My suggestion would be to put carmex on it
