Just got my lip pierced on Saturday, and I'm really happy with it, but my lips have become severely dried out because I'm not allowed to put lip balm/gloss on my lips for over a week after the initial piercing. My piercer also said to avoid Neosporin and Vasoline because it can clog up the wound and make my piercing take longer to heal.
Does anyone know of anything I can use - aside from straight water - to help get some moisture back into my lips so they don't start splitting?
Please don't say Vasoline or Neosporin or anything like that - that is absolutely horrible to use on a lip piercing. =]
Thanks!Dry lip care after lip piercing?
I've never liked vaseline, and neosporin would taste funny. But it's winter and you need something. I guess your piercer has to give generalized advice for the least responsible clients...Realistically, as long as you apply it carefully and don't gob it on, you can use any lip balm you like. Apply it with a q-tip or your pinky finger, whichever is more comfortable, and be sure to only apply as much as you need. Rub in well and blot (dabbing motion, not rubbing) to remove excess. Don't rub your lips together like you normally would to spread the balm- that'll put pressure on and annoy your piercing.
I'm not saying your piercer is wrong. But as long as you apply it carefull, it shouldn't affect your piercing. If you got a normal lip piercing, the outside hole is under your lip and the inside one is, well, inside your mouth. So aside from eating vaseline or spreading all the way down your chin, you really should be fine. Just make sure your hands are clean if you use your finger to put it on. I wouldn't use the applicator like normal- more germs to store.Dry lip care after lip piercing?
Blistex is a good choice, and believe it or not, I have 2 lip piercings and petroleum jelly/Vaseline helped my dry lips. You just have to remember not to put it directly on the lip ring hole you can apply it around the lip ring. Take care of it and I hope I help.
I use Palmer Cocoa Butter Formula: Dark Chocolate %26amp; Peppermint LIP BUTTER. It's very very light its like a lip balm and gloss all in one.. it's the one you squeeze out.. The only issue is it's near impossible to find (where I live anyway).. I got it at a home show a year ago (still have it woot woot) and have only JUST found a place that sells it. But it works reaaaaally well on chapped lips. I'm not 100% sure about lip piercings because I don't have one.
