Lip piercings can take anywhere from 6-8 weeks if not longer to heal. Make sure to not leave the jewelry out for more then a few minutes as the hole can close easily. It can take up to 1-2 years before you will be able to remove the jewelry for periods more than a day. There will be some swelling. Swelling usually occurs 2-3 days after the piercing and can last up to 7-10 days. After the initial healing swelling has gone down (about 2 weeks) you can go back to the piercer and have them change the labret stud/ring to a smaller stud/ring. Make sure to not play with or chew on the piercing during the healing process doing so could lead to excess scar tissue formation. Be careful where you swim. Avoid public pools and hot tubs until the piercing has healed. Do not touch the new piercing. Don't let anyone else touch the pierced area until it is healed.
To clean the piercing:
Wash your hands with soap before cleaning the piercing. Use anti-bacterial soap to clean the jewelry only in the shower, and rinse well. Do non-iodized sea salt soaks 2-3 times per day. The correct proportion is 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt to 8 ounces of warm water.
Don鈥檛 ever use hydrogen peroxide, alcohol swabs, or alcohol-based cleansers on the piercing. They are very harsh and dry out your skin prolonging the healing period. Choose an antibacterial mouthwash that does not contain alcohol and rinse your mouth after all meals and snacks. NEVER use an ointment like neosporin it keeps your piercing to moist, causing bacteria to spread. Neosporin prevents oxygen from reaching the wound. It is not designed for use on healing piercings.
You can also use vitamin C, B-vitamins, and a zinc supplement to promote healing. Vitamin E oil can help if you ever get a bump (most likely scar tissue). Lavender oil also helps with if the piercing becomes dry; it also promotes healing, lubricates the piercing, and reduces tenderness. Just make sure to dilute it (1-2 drops in warm water).Lip peircing care...HELP!?
you can also use dial soap the one that u use for ur hands clean it about 3 -4 times a day and u can change it after 2 weeks
sea salt and water soaks about 3 times a day use a shot glass it works very well sea salt is the best thing for cleaning any piercing it pulls the dirt right out i have a lot of piercings and it works wonderfully for me i also have my lip pierced everyone will tell you to use sea salt
you use sea salt spray to clean it, you should have recieved some from the piercer because they always give you something to clean your piercings with especially if it's in the mouth area..
different people like to use different things, if you want something simple and straightforward you can just use a mild soap and water or salty water. there are also products specifially for cleaning piercings, h2ocean is one of the best.
to be safe, you should wait about 6 weeks before changing the ring.
I have a lip peircing too. What you have to do is clean it two or three times a day for the first week with salt water (boil some water and mix it in with salt in a small glass), inside and outside. Also if you can buy some tea tree oil, use it on the outside of your lip after you clean it with salt water, just a few drops. After a week, just clean it 1 or 2 times a day, depending on how it's healing :) Wouldn't reccomend changing the ring for at least 2 weeks.
