How can I care for my lip piercings?

I have retainers in. My lip was pierced last night and I'd just like to check what the proper care for them would be considering I'd like them to heal properly. I use a chap stick.. Can this in anyway irritate my piercings? Is it bad for them if I drink diet coke? Is there certain foods and drinks that are better to consume? Is it fine to just do salt swishes to keep it clean or do I need to do more? I like the taste of salt so yes.. OH! And do I need to boil the water first? Certain toothpastes that are bad and good? It's bad to play with the inside of the piercing.. I'm guessing.. But if you don't move it a bit every now and then won't it get stuck? Advice please, anything you think would be helpful.

Well I hope that I can help.

Try to stay away from sodas for a few days, they just irritate it.

Don't eat spicy foods for a few weeks, they also irritate the piercing.

Do a mouthwash rinse, mix it half and half with water to rinse out your mouth after you eat anything to get rid of food particles. All toothpaste should be fine.

Don't touch it with your fingers. Playing a little with your tongue is alright.

Don't get any makeup near it, a little chap stick should be fine, but don't get it near the piercing.

Don't engage in oral sex for about a month, it will get infected it you do.

Get some saline solution or H2Ocean (they should have that at the parlor where you got it done) to clean the ';crusties'; off the outside of the ring.

Don't eat anything acidic, such as ketchup, oranges, fruit juices, etc. They also irritate it.

Other than those things you should be fine. The swelling will go down in a week and the tenderness should stop then too. Take an anti-inflammatory if its bothering you. Just DON'T take it out! Wait a month or so till you change the ring/retainer, and don't leave anything out for longer than a few minutes.

You should go to a website and search proper oral peircing aftercare.

You dont need to boil it just Warm water and salt a few times a day is what i used to do when i had my lip peirced

I dont think chapstick will effect it

What you drink shouldnt matter unless its alcoholic
befor you go to bed put some oil or vaseline in you naval

or make your naval grease or oily. this really works beleive me!
for natural ways, put some bee wax or pure honey on ur lips

use a vit b panthenol cream

vaseline is also helpful
By getting rid of it and look your normal self again!
