How do I care for an infected lip piercing?

The piercing is a week old, and it's reddish, tender and hot. I'm pretty sure those are signs of infection.

Can I use peroxide? My neighbor said that peroxide keeps a wound open, so I shouldn't use it. Any advice?

I've been swishing salt water in my mouth and using hand sanitizer on the outside. The piercing is below my lower lip to the side, if that matters. How do I care for an infected lip piercing?
Have you been using mouthwash after every meal??

If not you need to start doing that.

Also, you need to get some Bactine.

I would go back to where you got it done and ask for advice.

If the infection gets worse you could end up with Toxic Shock Syndrome (Yes, you don't only get it from tampons). How do I care for an infected lip piercing?
when i got my ears done i got a mini syringe and filled it with salt water or diluted tcp

seeing as you are already using salt water dilute some tcp and try and squirt it into the hole arounf the bar, its hard but it works best coz else it doesnt really get into the hole.

also buy some spray savlon and spray that on!!!! i really think you should do this!! it is antiseptic and really helps the healing process

good luck =]]xx
Don't use peroxide, or alcohol.

Buy some h2ocean, spray it everyday. Also buy bactine. Spray that everyday as well. Repeat every day. Don't touch it. At all. anddd its extremely common that you could be having an allergic reaction to the jewelry. If you must, try switching it out.
Yes peroxide would help it but alcohol would kill the infection faster i've tried it and it doesn't burn!! Also make sure you get the stud or hoop and soak it in the alcohol to.
My daughter used a saline solution for her belly button piercing when it was infected and it seemed to work. She also used neosporin around the area.

Hope this helps!
Peroxide is safe to use, just use in in moderation. Too much an damage the tissue. Avoid alcohol as well.

I'm not sure what your neighbor was referencing.
