What's the best way to take care of a fresh lip piercing you have pierced yourself?

My sister pierced her lip the other day and I know you need to keep it clean and use mouthwash, but I'm not sure what kind to tell her to use. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated! What's the best way to take care of a fresh lip piercing you have pierced yourself?
As gross as it sounds she needs to wash her mouth out with salt water, i had to do that. And don't use a alcohol based mouth wash that just irritates it. I used this

Make sure she pierced it with a long bar as well so it can withstand swelling otherwise the bar will sink into the skin when it swells.

Salt water: Use only sae salt and add 1/4 teaspoon of it into boiled water. Wait for it to cool and just put a tiny drop on the back of your hand and taste it. It shouldn't be any saltier than a crisp. You can bathe it by using a egg cup to seal it and just soak it like that for about 5 minutes. Only do it twice a day though otherwise her piercing will get irritated. Good luck! What's the best way to take care of a fresh lip piercing you have pierced yourself?
I think it is important to note that for sea salt soaks or rinses it is important to use non-iodized sea salt only. Report Abuse

jesus, Jane B deserves an infection i think.

its someones personal looks, i bet you won't like her lip ring, and i bet she won't like the way you dress.

doesn't mean you have to wish something on someone. Report Abuse

If shes using mouthwash makes sure she dilutes it a little with water or she can gargle with salt water. As for the outside theres a spray made by h2ocean, you check out a couple tattoo shops to see if they have it. It's the best way to clean the outside. And tell her not to play with it, touching it and playing with it alot will delay the healing process.
Use peroxide or alcohol (rubbing) to clean the outside. Use the mouthwash Peroxyll to rinse around 3-5 times a day, that's what I had to buy for my tongue piercing to keep it clean
Nothing.

She deserves to get infected.
Try salt water!
