How can I take care of lip/bellybutton piercings from infections?

I want to pierce my lower lip as well as my bellybutton.

What should i do to take care of these piercings once i get them to prevent them from infections.

What products should i use?How can I take care of lip/bellybutton piercings from infections?
Just clean it about twice a day with non-iodized sea salt water.

Or just buy some H2Ocean, and use that instead.

For the lip, you only have to clean the outside of it for a couple weeks to a month, for the inside just rinse with a solution of half mouthwash/half water, or a rinse that your piercer could sell you, after everything you eat and/or drink for about a couple weeks to a month.

For the bellybutton, do a sea salt soak once a day for about 2 months, and also everytime your in the shower, wash it with non-scented anti-bacterial soap (Ivory is good, Dial is better.)

To make the sea salt soaks you:

Mix 1 cup warm water with 1/4 teaspoon NON-IODIZED sea salt from walmart (Iodide is a chemical that can harm the piercing) mix these together.

Then you put them in a lil dixie cup and kinda flip over onto the piercing, forming a suction vacum type thing, and soak like that for about 10 mins, then rinse with clean water to avoid build up of sea salt around the piercing.

Do not use alcohol or peroxide.

You can change the lip piercing after about a month.

For the bellybutton, your suposed to wait 6 months.

But most people don't. Its better if you do wait for the full six months, but if you have to change it, have a piercer do it cause they know how to do it without causing as much damage to the skin tissue.

Good luck :)How can I take care of lip/bellybutton piercings from infections?
i meant change the jewelry. lol sorry. Report Abuse

No bactrim it is an antibiotic you won't need that unless you actually have an infection.

Sea salt/water is great just to keep it clean. The BEST product is

H2Ocean which is basically salt water spray. It helps keep piercings from getting infected, and clearing infections.

Try not to play with the piercings it disturbs the healing process plus if you touch it with dirty hands all the time you could cause infection.

Also get it done professionally. Doing it yourself is not a smart thing to do. You may be able to clean the needle, but not sterilize it.
Tripp's Dad is correct.

Clean frequently but don't overclean. Also, a wash of Bactrim (white bottle, green top) once per day helps with belly button and nipple piercings - but I don't recommend using it around the mouth.
take some ibuprofen for the swelling and mix up some sea salt and water, heat it up and use a q-tip or cotton ball to clean them.

dont touch your piercings with dirty hands
